As we do each year, we will be conducting a number of Fire Drills and Lockdown Drills over the course of the year. Fire Drills have been built into school routines for many, many years. Lockdown Drills have been conducted in the TLDSB for roughly 15 years. A number of drills are conducted in both the Fall and Spring. The purpose in conducting these drills is to give students and staff the confidence to effectively handle these situations in as calm a manner as possible.
I wanted to make our school community aware so that if your child(ren) comes home and mentions either type of these drills, you will know why the drills have happened.
As well, during a Lockdown or a Lockdown Drill, no one is allowed to leave or enter school. I understand that from a parent or guardian perspective this is difficult. Some parents and guardians want to come to the school to sign their child(ren) out; however, TLDSB policy is that no one enters or leaves the building during a Lockdown or a Lockdown Drill. Should you need to pick your child up for an appointment, you will have to wait until the Lockdown or Lockdown Drill is over.
