LFPS Recognizes World Down Syndrome Day Next Thursday, March 21

We ask all members of our LFPS community to wear mismatched socks next Thursday, March 21.  Why?  LFPS recognizes World Down Syndrome Day and one way for people to recognize the day on a personal level is to wear mismatched socks.  Chromosomes are shaped “like socks” and people with Down syndrome have an extra chromosome (chromosome “21” – which is why the day is recognized on March 21).

I would encourage members of the LFPS community to visit the World Down Syndrome Day website to learn about Down Syndrome.

I would further encourage people to watch the video “Chromosomes R Us” from the World Down Syndrome Day website which does a wonderful job discussing Down Syndrome.

Show your recognition of the day, Lions! Break out the mismatched socks!  Do you have outdoor lights?  If you can, use blue and yellow bulbs which have become the light up colour scheme for buildings around the world to recognize this day.
