With the school year well underway, we continue working away on arrival and dismissal routines. Routines are falling into place for the most part; however, there are always some refinements necessary.
Grades 1 to 6 students, whether walkers or bussed, are dismissed at 3:10 pm (which is our school day’s end). There have been a few hiccups at this time – largely around the dismissal for our younger walking students taking a few extra minutes. We will do our best to smooth out this routine so that parents/guardians are not having to wait too long.
We ask that parents and guardians picking up their children at the main walkers’ gate (the gate beside the 2 portables along Angeline Street) do not crowd the area immediately around this gate. We ask that parents and guardians not stand in the roughly 10 or 15 feet immediately around the gate so that Kindergarten staff can identify who is picking up Kindergarten students. As well, our younger students are having difficulty locating their parents or guardians due to congestion in the gated area.
There is no perfect answer here. I like that most students (especially our younger ones) enter and exit through the main walkers’ gate as it allows staff to better control (by being able to identify who is picking up students) the situation. However, this means that the main walkers’ gate area is congested.
