A Message from LFPS Principal

Dear LFPS Families,

The warmth and brightness of today’s sunshine gives us the hope and optimism that we are all searching for during these difficult times.

By now you should have had some form of communication from your child’s teacher. At this point in time we are working together as a staff (virtually) on how we are going to roll out the TLDSB Continuity of Learning Plan. We are hoping to start with providing you and your child some activities to engage them back into learning.

Keep in mind that as we move forward through the Continuity of Learning Plan we will be following expectations outlined in the curriculum documents and that students will be provided feedback and student work will be assessed by your child’s teacher. The board and the ministry are still working on the assessment and evaluation pieces of the Continuity of Learning Plan. The evaluation of work will look differently for all students depending on the developmental level of the student. Some students may be required to submit work to their teachers, others may have to post a comment or others may have to send a picture. TLDSB is still working on a plan to how we will reach out to those students without technology or internet at home. We are currently awaiting direction from both the Ministry of Education, TLDS Board and the Health Unit on this important plan.

I know that many resources have been sent out by your child’s teacher. I have posted A Guide for Parents for Google Classroom to the LFPS website as Google Classroom is a platform many teachers may use to communicate and teach your child. Other teachers may use SEESAW, Remind etc.

2020 Parents’ Guide to Google Classroom

We have been impressed with both our Federal and Provincial leaders in terms of keeping Canadians’ health at the forefront and keeping us informed daily. We are in uncertain times and we all have to exercise both caution and patience.

I assume you are aware that our schools will remain closed until at least May4th. This date may change as Premier Ford gets further information from the Chief Medical officer.

The Premier and Minister of Education have posted information on the ministry website regarding the ‘Learning From Home’ plan. Please also refer to the TLDSB website for updates as well.

Our main priority is that all of our students and their families are safe and healthy.

I am hoping that you are able to use this time to connect with loved ones in your home and stay connected to family and friends through technology while maintaining physical distancing.

I hope that you are all well and remain so.

We are working hard as at team at LFPS to keep you informed as quickly as possible. Please reach out to your child’s teacher or to myself at darla.mcquarrie@tldsb.on.ca if you have any questions.

Take care, stay healthy,
