(LINDSAY) The young athletes at Leslie Frost Public School in Lindsay have once again proven they have what it takes to be 'Kids of Steel.'The school has been awarded with the Lindsay Kids of Steel Participation Award, for beating out other local schools in having 45 of their students participate in 2010's triathlon out of a total number of 208.
"For the last three or four years we have had Leslie Frost as our participation winner," said Greg Nisbett, organizer of the Lindsay triathlon.
"So far no one has been able to beat them."
Kerri Clarke, a teacher at Leslie Frost Public School who helped spearhead the push for participation in the triathlon, credits a lot of hard work and dedication from parents in the success of the school.
"The parental support was tremendous," she said of parents like Shelley Trennum, who organized early morning bike practices for participants.
Ms Clarke did a running program with students over the lunch hour twice a week beginning in May until the big event June 27. Kids were encouraged to work on their swimming skills independently.
