Principal’s updates

Elisa:

  • LFPS has reintroduced house league colours: a way to bring students together. Acts of kindness (academic/social) receive coupon for the “house” team. Planning colour days 1x/month, Spirits days 2x/month
  • book fair: raised approx. $5500 – French teachers received decodable books
  • breakfast program: doing well
  • Upcoming important dates:
    – April 12 grade 5/6 dance and tropical day
    – April 19 Colour Day
    – April 23, 24, 29 Rocks and Rings
    – April 26 Njacko Backo for Core French and FI
    – June 5 Dufflebag Theatre 2 performances
    – June 20 FloFranco for grade 6s at Central
  • national lacrosse booked
  • jr. basketball started: 2 schools looking to join for exhibition games
  • spirit wear (Ontario Graphics): selling next week, all purchases are done online – adding “house colour” t-shirts for purchase – ordering starts Tuesday, April 2nd (sample sizes available in office)
  • games club: first recess
  • girls club: invitation only
  • French Grant – applied for Njacko Backo
  • Gr. 6 celebration:
    – no activity planned yet: BBQ “family picnic”, arena/skating
    – photos: FI 6’s group photo for hallway, gr 6s will be gifted class grad photo
    – field trip: bowling/swimming etc locally
    – awards: something will take place
  • Announcements: No PA – moving to google slides to highlight student successes: Start TBD
  • Art Night – very well received
  • Math and Literacy Night – being planned

Financial report

  • $2850 in Parent Council account
    Fundraising not needed at this time, but still worth considering
  • Opening balance $4319 – art night classes submitted (15 submitted)

Board update

  • Spring Fling: June 6th
    Allyssa and Jen – start planning

  • Donations of spring “toys”? Table for now – staff come to solution
    – new trikes for kindie yard needed – Julie is looking into this

Principal’s update

Charlene Chapman:

  • LFPS had a very busy December
  • Pancake day was amazing! Thank you to Parent Council, volunteers and student; they were very efficient in getting nearly 1500 pancakes prepared, cooked, and distributed in 2 hours! All was well received.
  • 25 cent sale a hit, raising $770! These funds are going to breakfast program. Teacher’s preferred wrapping happening in their classrooms this year. Next year: teacher’s wrap with students? Hold sale a earlier in December?
  • Christmas carrolling happened before the Christmas break. Fun had by all!
  • Darin Parish has moved to Rolling Hills PS, Elisa Mulcaster is our new principal at LFPS.
  • Report cards will be coming home in February, teachers are busy writing.
  • Acadience: primary teachers have been training and are now working through this with their students. This will reflect at the top of report cards, beginning in June. Elisa Mulcaster
  • JK/SK Learning at the Desk has been happening since returning from break
  • PC vision: working as a team – welcoming any questions or concerns. How can we make the school a better place? Volunteer/help/support the school.

Board updates

  • Boundary Review: no change to FI at this time (maybe next year?) JK-8 for all English stream. LFPS boundary changed to Albert St. Anyone living east of Albert St is now in the KAPS boundary. Admin will be calling these families.
  • Snow Days: any solutions for at school before/after care for working families on snow days? Compass has an 80 person 3 waitlist. Can we ask Compass (Tara) to re-join PC?

Boston Pizza

This fundraiser went so well!

  • We raised $350 (10% from every receipt turned in) night of, and $372 (5% from every receipt turned in) for the year.
  • There is no limit on how often we can do “celebrity server”
  • Celebrity Server is available on Mondays (50% off pizza!) and Wednesdays
  • teachers serve?
  • $350 of funds will go to the Breakfast Program. $372 of funds will go to PC account

25 cent sale

25 cent sale review in Principal update.

In addition:

  • need a sub meeting with sub committee for 25 cent sale overhaul
  • LFPS will have gr 7 English students next year
  • potential to have gr 7 wrappers next year

Upcoming events

Carnaval

  • in Feb, organized by Mme. Kheraji
  • 7/8 Central student helpers

Book Fair

  • week of Feb 25th
  • funds will be used towards new classroom books

Valentine’s Dance

  • gr. 6’s will have a dance in the last period on Feb 14th

Art Night

  • Feb 28th
  • PC supplies funding for art supplies for each classroom to create art
  • PC approved $100 per classroom ($2300) for supplies
  • parents will visit the school the night of Feb 28th to see the art displayed by their student and class and have the chance to visit the book fai
  • create a passport: all passports handed in will go into a draw for a prize – Crayola? GT? Shoppers?
  • seek BP coupons to hand out at Art Night: PC table to advertise next celebrity server night

  • Cutting costs for breakfast program: EA’s helping break down bulk foods into smaller portions. No rice krispies/granola bars (do not meet healthy requirement). Fruit and cereal being distrubuted to classrooms. Milk/cheese strings/crackers/applesauce available in the office. Will reach out to National Grocer re: helping with cost

Direction setting (chair/co-chairs)

Line painting on the yard for basketball/soccer fields etc
-Soccer field isn’t worth it, will be gone in rain or cut (line paint is expensive)
-Opportunity for parent council fundraiser to cover pavement with line painting: approx. cost $2500: school board contractors with a guarantee for a season [shoveling etc])

PC to send Google Form to LFPS parents a week prior to meetings with questions etc. (include our current ideas with an “other” option for input) + add volunteer check box with contact info Jaclyn

Look into fundraisers for the year – send spreadsheet to PC Allyssa

Parent Council initiated hot food lunch (parents don’t have to pay, allowing all students to receive)
-Can we have volunteers from outside of the school for hot lunches? Kinsmen Club/Church ladies etc
-Pancake lunch Dec 15 – need volunteers. 8am start, youngest to oldest classes
-Bring your own plates/fork – need: metal trays to transport to classrooms, griddles, utensils, peanut free/gluten free mix, syrup

Culture Night/Arts night? Choose an artist to mimic per classroom, families come to see, passport to collect scavenger hunt stamps – evening event – March/April? Match with book fair

PC will need to approve cost – approx $175 per class – donations from parents outside of this budget

Hot lunches: vegan cheese and cauliflower crust offered Nov 15th on – sufficient volunteers for Pizza days

Get back into data – data gives specificity of where kids are. School trends, classroom trends. Getting more resources and assessments from the board. Need to go back in order to move forward. Every teacher in the building receives board level PD.

There is currently $4300 sitting in the PC account.
Boston Pizza reached out re: pizza day. $4.29+tx ($4.85) per individually boxed pizza
Moving forward: Any monies to be handed in to the office, please roll change and complete a deposit sheet.

To discuss consenus on what funds will be used for, layout for the year. All fundraising requires a stated purpose of which the school community is aware.

Other business

Beginning to continously seek volunteers.
Post in guidance office’s at the high school for students looking for hours. Jen will follow up.

Boston Pizza hot lunches to Start Wednesdays in November. Will explore other hot lunch ideas in the future.

25 cent sale: Dec 19th/20th – will need volunteers to set up Dec 18th at 4pm.
