The Final Stretch

E-mail Print PDF

As we enter the last two months of study, it is important for students to be demonstrating their full capacity. Teachers will be requiring students to perform to high expectations, as they assess the levels of learning your child has achieved during this school year.

May and June are also busy months where students often take their learning out into to the field, hence the term—field trip. You can help your child by posting the school calendar in a place where it can easily been seen, and highlighting activities that pertain to your child.

We are approaching EQAO testing time for our grade 3 and 6 classes. This test of reading, writing and math allows us to gage how our students compare to the provincial standard in each of the three subjects. For a sample test and more information, please log onto www.eqao.com.

For testing purposes, we ask that you avoid arranging appointments or absences from school for the dates between May 23 and June 6, 2012. Thank you for your cooperation and support in preparing our students.

Stretching Our Students' Thinking

E-mail Print PDF
Dear Parents and Guardians,

I would like to share with you how proud I am of the great efforts that our staff is taking to ensure your children are learning to their fullest potential.  Our students are growing as writers and stretching their thinking to support their ideas.  I am honoured to be part of a team of educators and students that have risen to this challenge.  I hope that you have noticed the growth in your own child’s writing as we have in our school-wide results.

Welcome to March!

E-mail Print PDF

Dear Parents and Guardians,

As spring approaches, our grade 3 and 6 teachers’ minds turn to the provincial assessment of reading, writing and mathematics.  LFPS students have traditionally performed well on these tests and this is due to the hard preparation work by students, teachers and parents alike.  We ask that all parents of grade 3 and 6 students become acquainted with sample questions that are posted on line at www.eqao.com or follow the link on our website: http://lfp.tldsb.on.ca

The website also allows you to see how different answers would be rated from a level 1 (significantly below standard) to a level 3 (provincial standard) or level 4 (above standard).

Make this a fun learning experience and try some questions with your child! We appreciate your support and commitment in continuing our proud academic tradition at LFPS.

On a final note, for those who are travelling near and far during the March Break, please be safe.  We look forward to seeing all of our LFPS family back and ready to learn on March 19th.

Sincerely,

David Sornberger

Fully Engaged

E-mail Print PDF
Feb. 1, 2012 - February is a busy month at Leslie Frost, where students are fully engaged in the core of Term 2's academics and extracurricular activities.

This month's character trait is "honesty". You will see that your child/ren's school planner addresses the importance of being honest, where it explains, "Honesty is when you are sincere and truthful in your words and actions."

We're looking forward to seeing what Wiarton Willie will predict on Groundhog Day! Regardless of his prediction of an extended or shortened winter, we have several events occurring at the school to help beat the February "blahs". From the LFPS Electives to our basketball teams - there is something for everyone to try this month!

We know that being active in extra-curricular activities can enhance a child's school experience and make them more focused in class. We encourage everyone to participate in at least one new activity this month!

Sincerely,

D. Sornberger,

Principal

Welcome to 2012!

E-mail Print PDF
Dear Parents/Caregivers,

2012Welcome back to school for the year 2012. Happy New Year! I hope the New Year is one filled with good health and prosperity for you and your family.

Communication is a key component to your child's academic success. The partnership of parent, teacher, and student is critical in fostering progress and growth for our students. We hope that your child continues to experience a year of growth academically, socially, and emotionally.

With the winter's worst weather still ahead of us, I wish to remind you to ensure that your child is dressed appropriately for school. In this light, gloves, hats, scarves and warm coats are in order. Without your supervision, children sometimes come to school ill- equipped for the cold. Again, I thank you for your help.

This month's character trait is "trustworthiness". As the student agenda states, "being trustworthy means that you behave in an honourable manner. You act with integrity. Your words match your actions."

Sincerely,

D. Sornberger
Principal
