Stress, depression, anxiety, substance abuse and mood disorders are a prevalent issue in children's health today. Trillium Lakelands District School Board is responding positively to the increased focus on children's mental health. Research shows good positive mental health for children increases success in schools, future education, as well as successful relationships with peers and family. Director of Education, Larry Hope believes - prevention is the best. Parents can help children become engaged in positive activities they enjoy doing that gives them a sense of belonging, and achievement. Also, children need to develop skills of resiliency to help them cope with negative difficulties life may send their way. There are numerous support services available to families dealing with children's mental health, and parents looking for help can contact their child's school, social services, community organizations, or online resources.
